The 21st Century Groom
by Heather Greene

Okay, you've popped the question, you've figured out who want you Best Man and groomsmen to be, now you just sit back and relax while your wife to be plans the wedding, right? Not a chance. Today's grooms are taking an active role in helping plan their weddings. Remember this is your big day too.

I hate picking out flowers and china patterns. What can I do to help my bride plan for the wedding? Lots. Typically activities like selecting a band or DJ, figuring out the alcohol/ food to be served, booking a limo or transportation and reserving hotel rooms for relatives fall into "groom activities" but I can guarantee your fiance will probably want your assistance in selecting a ceremony and reception site and choosing an officiant. It's also nice if a groom helps out with the invitations, favors, and flowers, but if that's not your cup of tea so to speak, offer to do something else.

Looking Great It's true, the bride's dress will probably matter a heck of a lot more than your tux, but it's still important that you look nice and feel good.

The Art of Giving Weddings aren't the time to be stingy. Your bride and your groomsmen have done a lot for you. Show them you appreciate it by buying them a gift.

The Rings Once you're done picking out the engagement ring, you'll have to start thinking about wedding rings for both you and your fiance. Pick out a style you like, get fitted, and decide what you'd like engraved on the inside.

The Vows and Readings Many couples are now choosing to write their own vows. Be sure to sit down with a pen and paper long before the wedding ceremony so you don't find yourself in a jam the night before the wedding. Put a lot of thought into your vows, they mean a lot to you and your bride. If you're having readings at the wedding, it's important for you and your fiance to sit down and figure out what you want to be read and who will be doing the readings.

Remember How Much You Love Your Bride Try to be understanding if she turns into a "bridezilla" or has an emotional breakdown. Don't mess up your relationship by doing something stupid at your bachelor party (or any time else for that matter). And above all else, keep the romance flowing with your bride and remember why you wanted to marry her.
